We are excited to be back with another Meet The Makers interview and this month, we have our skilled seamstress, Caroline who has been with us for several years now. It is important that each garment fits our customers seamlessly and from time to time, small tweaks are needed such as adjusting the length for example. We sat down and asked Caroline a few questions about her role within Triona whilst also finding out how and when her love of sewing began.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Caroline and I'm the seamstress for Triona so I work from our Factory Store here in Ardara. I was self employed for 16 years doing alterations (anything and everything!) and as anyone knows who runs their own business, it can be tough. I spotted an ad in the paper for the Seamstress position at Triona and decided to apply. Thankfully, I got a quick response to my application and I had the challenge of making a cape on my first day as part of my interview. Four years later, I'm still here!

What does a typical day look like within Triona for you?

I could be doing anything from pressing to fitting coats on our customers, completing alterations for customers ... whatever is needed! Sometimes, I do a little bit of fringing too. There is always a variety which is great so it means no two days are the same. We are getting into busy season now with visitors from all over the world which we always love to see coming!

When did you become interested in sewing?

I was offered a summer job at a clothing factory shop and that is where I learned to sew as I didn't know how to before that. I had a big interest in knitting when I was younger and spent a lot of time making different creations. Any money I had, was spent on wool. Most children were buying sweets but not me!

What is your favourite thing about working for Triona?

When I spotted the ad initially for the position, I liked the idea of working for a family business after being self employed for 16 years so I would definitely have to say that.

Do you have a favourite piece of Triona clothing?

I absolutely love the coats and blazers! They are timeless pieces you will have in your wardrobe for many years and I enjoy altering them  for customers too. After that, I would probably say the knitwear. There are so many vibrant colours in all of the collections so it's hard to choose really.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know our Seamstress, Caroline a little more and stay tuned for next month's!
