It was months in the planning and the day finally arrived for our Triona A/W shoot on a beautiful, sunny Tuesday in September. We could not have been any luckier with the weather and you will see the radiant sunshine beaming onto some of the images which we are so excited to share with you all. We say it every year (and may be biased), but this is one of our favourite collections to date.

Reflecting on the past year, there was a great sense of appreciation amongst the team that we were on set shooting again. Having sourced several locations in beautiful Barnesmore, it was also an opportunity to stop and admire the beautiful landscape that is on our doorstep  - scenery you wouldn’t normally have time to appreciate in the hustle and bustle of everyday life as it resumes.

The garments are of course, an integral part of any brand shoot but the true definition of team is, together we achieve more and this was demonstrated by our exceptional models, photographer, videographer and make-up artist who helped bring the shoot vision to life.

What to expect from the A/W collection at Triona Design?

You will also find some versatile pieces that are ideal for layering and keeping you cosy throughout the colder months. These key items will be the perfect addition to any wardrobe and you will cherish them for years to come.

The Orla Windowpane Jacket

Transitional garments are a key aspect to the Triona brand and one piece in particular which is available online now is the Orla Windowpane Tweed Jacket which you can find HERE. The fit is comfortable yet chic and it is expertly tailored for a super flattering fit. This 100% wool blazer can be styled with your jeans for a relaxed, yet smart look and the combination of grey and blue tones make it a truly wearable piece.

Triona Design, Brown Herringbone Jacket

For many years now, our signature and best selling piece for men has been the Brown, Herringbone Jacket which you can browse HERE.  Again, focusing on the transitional element, a key feature of this blazer is the natural fibres of the Donegal Tweed fabric and this provides a combination of breathability and warmth meaning you can easily wear it in every season. The majority of our pieces are inspired by the Wild Atlantic Way and this classic jacket, which is 100% pure Irish lambswool, is no different. This garment is the perfect way to introduce tweed to your wardrobe and not to mention, a truly versatile piece that you will have for years to come thanks to its effortless style.

McKernan Woollen Mills Scarves at Triona Design

Scarves are one of the must have accessories for the colder months (or all year round if you live in Ireland) and we are proud stockists here at Triona of Mc Kernan Woollen Mills, one of the most established scarf designers and manufacturers in Ireland.

A family run business, founded by an Irish/German couple based in the West of Ireland and their exquisite designs are sold all over the world.

“As a product, scarves have a high perceived value but for us they are also a canvas that allows us to express our artistry, love for colour and appreciation of high quality textiles. As for the customer, a scarf can both enhance and compliment a person’s complexion and outfit. It can flatter, adorn, comfort, uplift, and of course, protect. Finally, it goes without saying that a scarf also makes a wonderful gift.”

The scarves from McKernan Woollen Mills can easily flatter, adorn any outfit, uplift the wearer and protect against the cooler weather.

Up until 1995, all of their wool scarves were woven on hand looms. They have now progressed to using 120 year old cast iron shuttle looms and their scarves are woven using yarns such as virgin merino wool, cashmere and alpaca.

Restored Domestic weaving looms have now been added to their studio. This piece of 19th century technology has helped hugely with the finishing process as it creates a woven selvedge. This design detail is comparable to handwoven textiles in years gone by and gives each scarf a superior finish.

McKernan Woollen Mills use the most up to date knitting solutions and allow them to work with different stitch combinations such as the most sought after jacquard.

Experimentation is always at the heart of the design process in the McKernan team and they are continuously working to create new and innovative designs.

Using the highest quality yarns is always of utmost importance and comes first in the design process. The drape, finish and versatility of the scarves has always been one of their main focuses.

Broken twill weaves, rip weaves, herringbone and basket weave are just a few of the stitches that are incorporated into these exclusive Irish scarves.

Choose from silky smooth or textured, patterned or plain, oversized or narrow - there is sure to be one to suit every taste! From bright vibrant pinks to tonal blues, these colours are sure to make the perfect gift direct from Ireland.

Merino Wool Scarves

The Cosmo scarf is a top quality example of Irish design and craftsmanship from McKernan Woollen Mills. Made from 100% extra fine merino wool, this scarf is designed so that each and every thread is different. It has been woven on a vertical hand-warping mill which creates the beautiful effect of the broken twill weave. McKernan Woollen Mill has been creating this distinctive scarf for many years now and each year they create a new set of vibrant colour palettes which complete any outfit. This Sea Anemone scarf is exquisite and can be styled in so many different ways to complete any outfit. Each piece of this wool scarf is then hand finished with a lovely knotted fringe to finish the scarf to the highest quality.

Another beautiful version of the Cosmo scarf from the McKernan Woollen Mill collection is the Eldorado scarf pictured below. The vivid colours are blended beautifully to create a gorgeous colour palette of greens and plums. Made from 100% extra fine merino wool, this scarf is designed so that each and every thread is different. The plums, greens and navy combine to create a rich jewel colour story that tied in perfectly with our new Fiadh jacket!
