Sarah Jessica Parker wears Triona
Sarah Jessica Parker called into our Triona store on the Diamond in Donegal Town whilst on holidays with her family. They have visited the store a couple of times over the years and have also been to our factory store in Ardara as they holiday in the Donegal countryside.
SJP and her family came into the store one afternoon during the summer and spotted the Faye Coat and loved it immediately! At the time, we only had a few samples of the coat made, so she is the owner of one of the first Faye Coats! She had mentioned to us that she looked forward to making good use out of it during the Winter - we had assumed she meant for the cold NY days but perhaps she had something more specific in mind at the time!
Sarah Jessica has always been a great supporter of local Donegal brands and businesses and spoke of her love and appreciation for the escapism they experience in Donegal.
Their Donegal home is situated in Kilcar, a rugged part of Donegal at the foot of the Slieve League Cliffs. This area is renowned for its exceptional quality of yarn and knitwear some of which we use in our Donegal Tweed fabrics.
We had no idea that SJP had been seen wearing one of our coats until we were contacted to enquire if that was one of our designs! We then found the photographs of Sarah wearing the Faye Coat on the 'And just like that' wardrobe page! We are so grateful to her for helping to put a small family run Irish brand on such an iconic platform.
Our in-house design team Emma Quinn and Catriona Mulhern, the daughter of founder Dennis Mulhern worked alongside Freelance designer Caoimhe Grant on this collection.
Our aim at Triona is to preserve the beauty of Donegal Tweed fabrics whilst introducing modern silhouettes that our customers will be able to wear year after year. The Faye Double Breasted Mac Coat is currently available in the Black and White Prince of Wales Check, as modeled by SJP, which has a subtle pop of red to add a fashionable twist. This style can be worn belted to highlight the waistline or worn open to give a more oversized look. Due to the popularity and versatility of this style, next year we are introducing a few more fabric options in the Faye Coat.
Triona is a family run business located in County Donegal along the Wild Atlantic Way. The founder Dennis Mulhern is a fifth generation hand weaver with a strong desire to ensure that the tradition of weaving is both maintained and preserved. The brand began as a small bespoke tweed company in our family home and now three decades later, we have become a successful Irish tweed brand with two retail stores and a visitor centre where you can learn the history behind the making of Donegal Tweed.
Family is still at the heart of the business with Dennis and Ann's children, Kieran, Catriona and Patricia all working within different departments within the business. All of our tweeds are designed and made here in Ireland. This is an important part of our history and we hope to preserve the craft of weaving for many more years to come.
We have had such an overwhelming reaction to the news of Sarah wearing our Faye Coat during filming in New York City. The support from fellow Irish brands and our customers has been so positive and we are so proud to be highlighted amongst some of the biggest Fashion brands in the world.
We look forward to welcoming Sarah and her family to Donegal again soon!
